Nancy

Nancy started working with Swan Graphics the summer after her sophomore year. She was 16 and living with a current employee of Swan Graphics because her home was unstable and her mother and stepfather couldn’t afford to care for her. At the time, she was smoking weed, failing out of high school, and living in an unstable and difficult home environment.

Nancy’s mom has mental health issues. Nancy didn’t attend most of middle school because her family was fishing along the Columbia River. Nancy’s stepfather went from job to job and faced many periods of unemployment. Nancy’s family included 12 other full, half and step-brothers and sisters.

After several months of employment at Swan Graphics, Nancy’s living situation deteriorated. She came to live with the Maxfield’s. A few months after that, Nancy’s mom passed away. In the midst of all this, Nancy attended a YoungLife camp and gave her life to Christ, professing belief in Him as her Lord and Savior.

Nancy continued to work at Swan Graphics but also obtained second or third jobs at local restaurants, coffee shops and even YoungLife. She continued going to church each Sunday, additionally participating in Bible Study Fellowship, and personal growth through the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

Nancy received a scholarship to attend Heritage University and last May 2024 graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching.
