Founder of Swan Vocational Enterprises

Darren Maxfield first visited White Swan in 2013 on a church mission trip with his oldest daughter. Darren couldn't believe what he saw. The natural beauty of the Yakama Nation was in stark contrast to the poverty and brokenness all around. Generations of addiction and hopelessness had created so much heartbreak for so many. Darren returned to his accounting firm in Bellevue, WA asking how could this be, so nearby, and yet like a whole other world?

The family returned and couldn't escape the calling of God. Eventually they sold their home and moved to the Yakama Reservation, starting Swan Vocational Enterprises in 2020. Swan Graphics, and now Swan Seed Co., have allowed Darren and his wife Susie to live out their own faith by pouring into the lives of Swan Vocational’s young employees.

"Do I miss my old life, as a partner in my CPA firm on Seattle's eastside?" Darren was asked recently. "Not at all. It's fulfilled and changed our lives more than I could have imagined. There is so much meaning in what God has us doing here. Our life feels full and fulfilled and I don’t think it would if we hadn’t followed God’s call."
